The summer wind made the setting perfect on Friday, August 10, for the most delightful event of our
year, the Family Day picnic. Under the tents and awning of the east Marywood entrance, Residents
welcomed their loved ones to a delicious meal and a relaxing afternoon. As attendees were encouraged
to go Hawaiian, leis were distributed, with Hawaiian shirts and muumuus spotted here and there
throughout the crowd.
Setting up shop on a prime piece of real estate were Sister Mary Jane and Sister Agnes Marie whose
merchandise table included Marywood plush bears, T-shirts, and sweatshirts. Our long-time friend
Alison was there to share her artistic skill at face painting, and partygoers also enjoyed Chaz and
Loretta Russell’s glorious performance as the Gratitude Steel Band.
Of course, all this merrymaking can only happen when fueled by fine food! Food and Nutritional
Services rose to the occasion and a rotating crew of Marywood's finest from multiple departments
took care of serving those in line. This year's luscious selection included hamburgers, chicken
sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, watermelon, soda pop, and sherbet in raspberry, line, or orange
flavors.
What a great get-together it was! And how lovely to see three and four generations savoring the
afternoon breeze, good food, and one another. Memories were made that day to keep us warm all year
long. We send our grateful thanks to all who came to the party and especially to those who worked so
hard to make it happen.

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my Mom. We feel
blessed to have been a part of the Marywood family.
